New, Original, Star Wars Manga Coming from VIZ Media

A new Star Wars Manga is in the works to tell a brand new story set during the Sequel trilogy, with some connections to The High Republic as well!

Some exciting news from the folks over at ScreenRant, who brought the exclusive reveal of a brand new Star Wars manga from writer Kenny Ruiz. Called, Path of the Lightsaber, the new story takes place following the events of The Last Jedi and before The Rise of Skywalker. That’s right folks, we finally have some new Sequel era stories on the way! Here’s the quick description and cover image that ScreenRant revealed:

In this new manga, fans will follow a young tinkerer named Nioka who dreams of becoming a Jedi like Luke Skywalker. Their life is upturned after they stumble upon an actual lightsaber while investigating the ruins of a High Republic-era ship. Of course, there are others who are after the ancient Jedi weapon, complicating her ability to learn how to properly wield the artifact as she tries to protect it and herself.

So not only are we getting some Sequel goodness, but some High Republic connections to boot. I’m pretty thrilled about this, namely because the other original Star Wars manga books from VIZ Media (The High Republic: Edge of Balance) have been stellar. Seriously, some of my favorite High Republic stuff out there. If that’s anything to go by, Path of the Lightsaber has a lot of great potential to revamp interest in that era of Star Wars storytelling.

Sadly, not much other news on the upcoming book other than that, but more details are promised to be coming at this year’s Star Wars Celebration event in Japan!
